Challenge-based courses

Courses consist of home study combined with on-location meetings with Pamela. The home-study portion is completed via access to the Neufeld Institute's virtual campus, which houses course resources, a moderated discussion forum, and monthly live on-line Q&A sessions with Neufeld Institute faculty.  The working "text book" for each course is a video-recordings of Dr. Neufeld teaching, and many supplementary resources are also available to students on the campus. A core component of these courses are the live classes in which Pamela will answer questions and discuss practical application of the approach in your family. For more information about the format of these courses, please contact Pamela.

Otherwise known as the "Making Sense" series, these courses touch on some of the most troubling dynamics which parents face today:

Making Sense of Aggression:

This course looks at the roots of aggression. Where does it come from, and what can we do with it that doesn't get our children trouble?  In today's behaviour-obsessed world, we are turning natural immaturity-based aggression into a systemic and long lastint problem.  How can we recognize what is "natural" in terms of aggresive expression - the kind that a child will grow out of - and dangerous aggression that is more liely to spiral, than to be left behind...this is probably my very favourite course to teach - if you can get a group together I'll give you discount on this course.

Making Sense of Discipline:

Another popular title -  "what do I do when"? being the number one question of parents.  This course, again, as is characteristic of the Neufeld Approach, makes more sense of the behaviour expressed, rather than focussing on the "tools" to force chage, it talks about 12 natural and attachment-friendly discipline practices that can turn the corner on the problem.  This is one of those courses that can make a significant change in a child's life if the parents are ready to make some big changes in how they implement their loving relationship with their chid.

Making Sense of Counterwill

Why do children say no?  What to do about it?  Do we push it?  Ignore it?  lecture and  inform or roll over and give in?  Good news!  there are some other options?  Where does resistance come from, what is its purpose, and how can we work with nature to get around it?  This course makes sense of this most mis-understood dynamic.

Making Sense of Anxiety

More and more of our children are qualifying for anxiety diagnoses, and anxiety clinics are springing up everywhere.  What is the root cause of anxiety, and what are the various ways it is expressed?  most importantlly, how can we make a difference in the anxious childs' world so that they can find the rest they need to grow?  This course will address these and other questions.

Making Sense of Attention Problems:

With the incidents of ADHD and ADD diagnes skyrocketing, the questions must be asked - why are our children having so much trouble attending?  This course will explain the most common root of attention difficulites, and will bring light to one of the ost misunderstood dynamics of our time.  There is hope for the distracted child - and we can provide that hope.

Alpha Children - reclaiming our rightful place in their lives:

A growing number of children and youth are presenting as demanding, prescriptive, bossy and controlling. A disturbing number of these alpha children are turning into bullies as well. Alpha children can be challenging to manage and, by their nature, are more likely to present with troubling behaviour. This is making the child-adult dance much more difficult than it used to be or needs to be, despite the plethora of advice-giving and strategies available today.  Dr. Neufeld uncovers the surprising roots of the alpha complex and in doing so, opens the doors for lasting change: in the family, in the classroom and in society.
